N2K Feature: Crystal Bay Park
This 2-acre active park has been and will continue to be a staple of the Crystal Bay neighborhood and Orono. It is located just steps off the Dakota trail and right next to the Crystal Bay post office. This popular neighborhood park used to be the main street where the city office, public works, and police department used to be located. When City Hall got moved it was envisioned by the Mayor and Council that it would be an open green space forever. The current Parks Board and Orono City Council couldn’t agree more!
Crystal Bay playground is receiving a greatly needed update! The playground will be closed for the next few weeks while construction takes place. Concrete curbing will be poured early next week and the installation of equipment and mulch will occur in the following weeks.
The playground will receive several new pieces of equipment appropriate for the 2-5 age range. Some of the older equipment will be resurfaced and painted to match with the new equipment. Engineered wood fiber will replace the pea gravel, creating a much safer experience for all park users.
Whether it is a picnic after a bike ride on the Dakota trail or throwing a Frisbee around, this park is beloved by all in Orono and we encourage Orono residents to pop in!
